Common questions

General information to help you get started. Every property is different, so call us for specifics.

Water damage – first steps

What should I do first when I find water damage?
  • Put safety first. If water is near outlets, appliances or the electrical panel, stay out and keep power off in that area if you can do so safely.
  • If it's safe, stop the source of the water (for example, shut off a valve).
  • Take photos or video of the damage and affected belongings.
  • Move small valuables out of the wet area if it's safe to do so.
  • Call a professional and contact your insurance provider as soon as you can.
Why does speed matter after water damage?

Water can keep spreading into building materials, and damp conditions can allow mold growth to start. The sooner affected areas are dried, the better the chance of limiting further damage. Every situation is different, so call us for an assessment.

Does clearing standing water mean the problem is solved?

Not always. Moisture can remain inside walls, flooring and other materials even when surfaces look dry. Professionals use moisture-detection tools to check what's still wet.

Mold basics

What is mold and why does it grow?

Mold is a type of fungus. Mold spores are naturally present in the air, indoors and out. They need moisture to grow, which is why leaks, flooding, condensation and high humidity can lead to mold problems indoors.

What are signs of a possible mold problem?

Common signs include visible growth or staining, a persistent musty smell, and past or ongoing water leaks or moisture. Not every stain is mold, and mold can be hidden, so an inspection can help.

Can I just clean mold off the surface?

Surface cleaning alone may not solve the problem if the moisture source is still there or if mold has spread into porous materials. For anything beyond a small area, it's wise to have a professional take a look.
